What is an Energy Efficiency Certificate?

  • It is a technical document that certifies the energy rating of a building or part thereof obtained based on energy consumption and annual CO2 emissions derived from the use of the dwelling.
  • Since June 2013, it is mandatory for all those properties that are sold or rented to a new tenant, to have a valid Certificate of Energy Efficiency available.
  • The owner has the duty to provide the certificate to the buyers or lessees and may be penalized for infringement if he doesn´t.
